There is so much to see
and do
The
Wye Valley is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Norton House
is within a few minutes walk from the River Wye at Symonds Yat West, and has views
over the ‘Great Doward’ and ‘Little Doward’ hills, managed
by The Forestry Commission, Woodland Trust and the four Nature Reserves on the
‘Great Doward’ are owned by Hereford Nature Trust. All this is within
half a mile of the house.
For the very active,
hiking, canoeing, cycling, rock climbing or horse riding, are all close by. Walking
into Symonds Yat is easy with a footbridge and the ancient hand ferries allowing
access to Symonds Yat East and Yat Rock.
For bird watchers, peregrine falcons can be seen on the Doward
and the Rock, with the Red kite feeding stations in Wales, and the Bird of Prey
Sanctuary is nearby at Newent.
For Fishing enthusiasts the local lakes or rivers provide plenty
of scope.
For Golfers, there are good golf courses at Ross on Wye, Monmouth
or Hereford, and Forest of Dean. For just relaxing and cruising around
the beautiful countryside, the Wye Valley and Royal Forest of Dean and Herefordshire
are on the doorstep, with the Severn Estuary, Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains,
Golden Valley etc, all within easy reach. This is an area steeped in history with
numerous castles and ancient monuments within a twenty-mile radius.
For Garden Addicts, there is a wealth of gardens to explore,
garden centres to visit, and of course the Spring and Autumn Garden shows at the
Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern, only 40 minutes drive away.
For antique hunters, book browsers, and craft enthusiasts there
are the ancient towns of Ross-on-Wye, Hay-on-Wye, Ledbury and Monmouth near by,
the quaint black and white villages of north Herefordshire are an easy drive through
the beautiful country lanes. The number of local attractions, heritage museums,
cider museums, vineyards, animal sanctuaries etc, is just too numerous to mention
individually!
There is certainly lots
to keep you busy during your stay, many guests return again and again in order
